- The German website Mac & I reports that OS X El Capitan is the first OS X version that makes use of 10-bit drivers (30-bit color RGB) for the company’s latest computers.
- What color space you need depends on the work you are doing. DCI-P3 is the wide color space for video work. Adobe RGB is not. There is a huge overlap between DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB.
HEIF Converter is an application that converts HEIF files shot using a supported Sony camera to JPEG or TIFF files.
According to the Apple Developer API Reference, Display P3 “uses the DCI P3 primaries, a D65 white point, and the same gamma curve as the sRGB color space.” It looks like Apple wanted to keep as many sRGB characteristics as possible as they expanded the color range to the P3 color gamut. This involves measuring the white point, black point and multiple color/gray swatches in between. For best results, make sure you disable any kind of controls the OS allows, like auto dimming the display, night shift, and matching ambient light. On the Mac, check the Displays and Energy Saver System Preferences.
- HEIF files shot using a camera other than one of the supported models listed cannot be converted.
